Using your register and checking out customers.

How do I use custom payment methods?

A custom payment method is when a customer makes a payment outside of the default options (cash, card, or bank transfer). A custom payment method could include: 

  • Mobile wallets not integrated with Moniebook 
  • Vouchers
  • Barter/trade payments 


To set up a custom payment method: 

  1. Log in to your Moniebook account
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Select Payment Methods
  4. Select Add a New Method 
  5. Select Add Payment Method
  6. Enter the payment method name
  7. For example, “Gift voucher” or “Mobile Wallet XYZPay” 
  8. Select Save Changes


Keep in mind that there is a charge for every custom payment method that you add. 


Once you have set up a custom payment method, it will appear for cashiers during checkout.

How do I apply tax?

You can apply tax to transactions automatically or manually. 


To set up tax: 

  1. Log in to your Moniebook account 
  2. Go to Settings 
  3. Select Taxes 
  4. Set the Rate and assign it to your branches 
  5. Select Create Tax


If a tax rate is set to a branch, the tax will automatically be applied at checkout.

How do I save a cart?

If you need to pause a sale during checkout, you can Save Cart


A couple of examples for saving a cart:

  • If a customer needs to step away, maybe to grab cash or come back later 
  • If a customer calls to order something over the phone, staff can save their cart with their name and notes 


To pick up where you left off with a saved cart:

  1. Open the cart via Saved Carts
  2. Select Resume Sale


Once the sale is completed, the cart will be removed from the Saved Cart list.

Scanning barcodes

Scanning barcodes can dramatically speed up the checkout process for your cashiers — they also help avoid mistakes. 


If you’re using a Mac or PC as your register, the barcode camera icon is hidden. But you can connect a USB or bluetooth scanner to use barcode scanning. 


To scan barcodes on Android, iOS, or Terminal devices: 

  1. Tap the Barcode icon in the cart screen 
  2. The camera will open, and you can scan the barcode 
  3. We’ll recognise the item automatically and add it to the cart 
  4. If the barcode doesn’t exist in the system, we’ll show an error message


To scan barcodes with your Mac or PC: 

  1. Connect your USB or bluetooth barcode scanner 
  2. During checkout, just scan the barcode and we’ll recognise the item automatically and add to cart
  3. If the barcode doesn’t exist in the system, we’ll show an error message

How do I split payments?

Splitting payments can help with customers who want to pay using multiple payment methods, or if there are multiple customers paying a bill — as long as all amounts add up to the total amount before completing the sale. 


Only cashiers with Sell access can split payments. 


To split a payment: 

  1. At the payment screen, select Split Payment as the payment method 
  2. Select Add Payment Part 
  3. For each payment part, enter an amount and payment method 
  4. You can also optionally assign who is paying this part 
  5. Continue adding payment parts until the total equals the cart total

How do I discount my items?

You can apply a discount either automatically (using pricing groups) or manually during the checkout process. 


There are 4 types of discounts: 

  1. Fixed amount — a set amount applied automatically that is deducted from the total
  2. Fixed percentage — a set percentage applied automatically that is dedicated from the cart subtotal
  3. Manual amount — a flexible amount that is less than or equal to the cart total entered by the cashier at time of checkout
  4. Manual percentage — a flexible percentage that does not exceed the cart total entered by the cashier at time of checkout


Automatic discounts

To apply an automatic discount at checkout, you must first configure it in your Moniebook account. After configuration, any customer who belongs to the designated customer group will automatically receive the discount when they check out.


It's important to note that cashiers cannot remove or override these automatic discounts.


Manual discounts

Manual discounts can be applied by cashiers with Sell access during the checkout process — the discount can never exceed the total value of the cart. 


To apply a manual discount:

  1. Start a sale by adding items to the cart 
  2. Select Add Discount 
  3. This button will not appear if there’s an automatic discount applied
  4. Choose between Manual Amount or Manual Percentage 
  5. Select Confirm and the discount will appear in the cart 


To remove the discount, select Remove Discount


Keep in mind that only one discount can be active at a time.

How do I adjust my stock?

You can adjust your stock both via your Register or your Moniebook Dashboard


To adjust your stock using your Register: 

  1. Open the Register app on your device
  2. Select More
  3. Select Stock Adjustment


When adjusting your stock, you can do the following: 

  • Receive items so that you can add new stock to your inventory
  • Perform stock count so that you can perform inventory recounts
  • Record damaged goods so that you can remove damaged items from your inventory
  • Record loss so that you can remove lost or missing inventory

How do I reset my register?

Resetting your register can help fix repeated sync errors, missing data, or app crashes. 


If you’re looking to remove all cache and  locally stored data, then you should unpair your register.


To reset your register: 

  1. Open the Register app on your device 
  2. Select More
  3. Select Reset Register Data 
  4. Select Reset


After resetting your register, you’ll return back to the initial loading screen or login screen.

How do I unpair my register?

Unpairing your register removes all cache and locally stored data. 


If you’re looking to fix repeated sync errors, missing data, or app crashes then you should reset your register instead. 


To unpair your register: 

  1. Open the Register app on your device 
  2. Select More
  3. Select Unpair Register 


After unpairing your register you’ll return back to the initial pairing screen, ready for setup. 


Keep in mind, you must have the right permissions set to be able to unpair registers.

How do I add a new device as a register?

To add a new device (tablet, PC, Android, or iOS) to your Moniebook account as a register, you first need to pair it. 


Before getting started, make sure you have: 

  • The right permissions (check with the Admin or Manager to be granted permissions)
  • The Moniebook Register app installed on the device 
  • Access to your Moniebook account (or someone else who does) 


Step 1: Download the Register app 

If you’re using a device like a tablet, computer, or smartphone you need to download the Register app first. 


Upon downloading: 

  1. Open the Moniebook Register app
  2. Upon opening the app for the first time, you will see Pair this Register 


Step 2: Get your pairing code

Now that you have the app ready on your device, you need to get a code for pairing it to your account: 

  1. Log in to your Moniebook account 
  2. Go to Administration and select Registers 
  3. Select Pair Register 
  4. Select the type of device you want to pair
  5. Enter a name for this device (for example, “Front counter tablet”)
  6. Select the branch this device will live at 
  7. Select any specific configurations you want, like receipt auto-printing or requiring a PIN for each sale
  8. Select Continue
  9. We’ll show you a 6-digit code 


Step 3: Pair and confirm 

Go back to your device: 

  1. Open the Moniebook Register app 
  2. Enter the 6-digit code we gave you in step 2
  3. Select Pair Register 


Once paired, your device will fetch your store’s settings and product data and you’ll be redirected to the register home screen. You can find this register under Registers on your Moniebook account.
